Why is it important to spay/neuter my pet?

Having your female dog or cat spayed and your male dog or cat neutered is beneficial to your pet's health, your happiness as an owner, and the good of your community.

In many cases, having a pet spayed decreases or eliminates the risk of cancer (such as ovarian or mammary cancer) and pyometra, which is a common, life threatening infection of the uterus in unspayed female cats and dogs. Having your male cat or dog neutered also eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and decreases that of prostate cancer.

In many cases, having your pet spayed or neutered can also have a positive effect on their behaviour patterns, such as in appropriate territorial aggression or house soiling.

Having your pet spayed or neutered shows that you are responsible pet owner, as it aids in population control.

At Beaverton Crossroads we perform spays and neuters starting at 6 months of age. However, after consultation with your veterinarian, some exceptions may apply in certain situations.
